Italy and della Robbia Relief Sculptures
Share
Have you been to Florence? If so, you've probably seen the iconic della Robbia art throughout the city. It has always enchanted me, since my first trip to Italy in 2006.

This vintage Mid Century Italian Ceramic della Robbia style sculptural wall plaque is in the shop, and it is a stunning piece featuring rich color and relief sculpture. Signed on the back.

Modeled after the Renaissance Florentine artist, Luca della Robbia and his son Andrea, who crafted the vibrant tin-glazed terracotta relief sculpture methods never before seen, to depict religious scenes or people, such as the Madonna and Child. Their work decorates much of Florence and can be seen in cathedrals, museums, and even street corners throughout Italy.

This piece is likely a mid century tourist piece, brought back by an admiring traveler. Any lover of historical design, Italy, or art will love and appreciate this unique piece!

Designer pro tip: mix this in with a collection of tiles or plates hung on the wall, or with framed art to create a variation in shape and texture. I have one in my own home, see the photos for inspiration!
